Twaano Lights Up the Big Screen: A Night to Remember

On January 20th, Arcades NuMetro wasn’t just hosting a film screening—it was witnessing history. The launch of Twaano marked a defining moment for Zambian animation, and the sold-out crowd knew it. From the moment the lights dimmed, the atmosphere was electric. In just 15 minutes, Twaano wove together three powerful, emotional stories that left the audience visibly moved, sparking conversations and connections that lingered long after the credits rolled.

But the evening was more than a premiere, it was a celebration of regional creativity. Trailers from neighboring visionaries like Kuda Rwisi (Mutupo) and Bill Masuku (Captain South Africa) reminded everyone that African animation is rising, bold, and unstoppable.

The energy soared even higher with two unforgettable live performances. Trina South and Dance Labs Zambia ignited the stage with a high-octane rendition of the theme song King, while Bupe, Abel the Violinist, and a troupe of dancers delivered a breathtaking performance of Sikulimoza. Together, they transformed the cinema into a space where film, music, and movement collided in pure artistry.

Conclusions

To close the night, producers Tabitha “Tabs” Mwale and Musenga Katongo joined the voice cast for an intimate panel. Their gratitude and insights revealed the heart behind Twaano, a project that has already set a new gold standard for Zambia’s creative industry. This wasn’t just a launch. It was proof that Zambian animation has arrived, and it’s here to inspire, connect, and lead the way.
